Minimum Wage Changes

Effective January 1, 2025, minimum wage in Virginia increases from $12.00 an hour to $12.41 an hour. This is in accordance with the Virginia Minimum Wage Act:

  • The Act states that the adjusted minimum wage rate should be a sum of the current minimum wage ($12.00 per hour) and a percentage of the current minimum wage rate equal to the change in Consumer Price Index for the most recent calendar year.
    • In December of 2023, the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics published an annual increase in Consumer Price Index of 3.4%.
    • The formula for adjusting the Virginia minimum wage is $12.00 + ($12.00 x .034) = $12.41 for 2025.

The Virginia Department of Labor and Industry (DOLI) has stated that annual adjustments to the Virginia minimum wage will continue in future years by the methodology described above.

As of January 2025, the minimum wage in Texas is $7.25 an hour. This is the same as the federal minimum wage.
